Privacy Policy

The short version: your journal entries live on your device. We do not manually read, sell, or access your journal entries. Your entries are only processed automatically to provide Nové's reflection features. AI processes your text to generate insights but does not store or train on it.
Who we are

Age requirement
Nové is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has used the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
What data we collect and store
Nové stores the following personal data entered directly by you:
- Personal journal entries — the text, thoughts, and emotional reflections you write in your diary
- Mood ratings — optional daily mood scores (down / okay / good / great)
- Wellbeing check-ins — optional daily check-ins on movement, nourishment, and sleep
- Chat messages — your conversations with the Nové AI companion
- Pattern data — emotions, triggers, and behaviors extracted from your entries to build your personal map. Pattern data is automatically generated from your writing and may include inferred emotional themes, recurring triggers, and behavioral connections.
All of the above is stored locally on your device only. We do not operate servers that hold your journal data. At this time, we do not have access to your journal entries, as they are stored locally on your device.
If you sign up for our waitlist on our website, we also collect your email address, used only to notify you about Nové updates.
How AI processing works
Nové uses Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, PBC, to power reflection features — including pattern extraction from journal entries, the Nové chat companion, and weekly reflection letters.
When you write an entry or send a message, your text is securely transmitted through Nové's proxy server to Anthropic for processing. The proxy does not store, log, or retain your journal content. This means your text briefly leaves your device during processing.
Your journal content is not used to train AI models. Anthropic processes your text to generate a response and does not retain it for training purposes.
AI-generated reflections may be imperfect, incomplete, or inaccurate and should not be treated as factual, medical, or psychological advice.

Encryption and security
Your data is protected at every stage:
- At rest — journal entries and app data are stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage. This data is protected by your device's built-in encryption, Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode.
- In transit — all data transmitted through Nové's proxy server to Anthropic is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
Nové also offers an optional in-app PIN lock for an additional layer of privacy.
Third-party services
Nové uses the following third-party services:

We do not use advertising networks, analytics platforms, or tracking tools of any kind.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for advertising, analytics, or commercial purposes. The only data that leaves your device is text transmitted through Nové's proxy server to Anthropic for AI processing, as described above.
Your deletion rights
You are in full control of your data:
- Delete a single entry — swipe to delete any diary entry directly in the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
- Delete all data — deleting the Nové app from your device permanently removes all locally stored data. This cannot be undone. We hold no server-side copy.
At this time, Nové does not provide cloud backup. Future versions may offer optional encrypted backup, and this policy will be updated accordingly.
- Remove your email — if you signed up for our waitlist and want to be removed, email us at charlotte.svendsen95@gmail.com and we will delete your address promptly.
Mental health and safety disclaimer
Nové is not a medical device, therapist, mental health service, or crisis intervention tool. Nové does not provide diagnosis, clinical assessment, or treatment of any kind.
Nové is a personal journaling and reflection app. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a qualified professional or emergency services.
If content you write appears to indicate risk of self-harm or crisis, Nové may surface supportive resources and crisis helpline information within the app.
Your rights under GDPR
If you are located in the EU or Norway (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including:
For users in the EU/EEA, we process your data based on your consent and our legitimate interest in providing and improving the Nové service.
- The right to access the personal data we hold about you
- The right to correct inaccurate data
- The right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
- The right to restrict or object to processing
- The right to data portability

Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it periodically. Continued use of Nové after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
